Ephesians 3:17-19 AMP
May Christ through your faith [actually] dwell (settle down, abide, make His permanent home) in your hearts! May you be rooted deep in love and founded securely on love, That you may have the power and be strong to apprehend and grasp with all the saints [God’s devoted people, the experience of that love] what is the breadth and length and height and depth [of it]; [That you may really come] to know [practically, through experience for yourselves] the love of Christ, which far surpasses mere knowledge [without experience]; that you may be filled [through all your being] unto all the fullness of God [may have the richest measure of the divine Presence, and become a body wholly filled and flooded with God Himself]!
The love of God is not so evident for many born again believers. Some of us, like me, were not raised in a Christian, Word centered family and some of us did but strayed away from God growing up. Some were truly badly raised by parents who made them feel rejected and unloved because they did not know better. Society is made with tons of distorted train of thought that make us think, from a very young age, that we could be better, that we are not good enough in many ways. We can also have been hurt by people we trusted and they can leave us completely unmade. In any of this cases, we end up lacking self esteem and we don’t know the meaning of real godly love or we think we simply don’t deserve happiness. This verses in Ephesians offers a prayer that we may know the love of Christ, and that we be rooted in God’s love. I was not able to feel His love at the beginning of my spiritual life because of self esteem issues. If you are like me, they is only one simple thing to do: ask God for a revelation of His love for you and meditate on these verses. Even now, after so many years of knowing God I think it helps and glorify Him when I say out loud of think : Thank You for loving me God. It is truly important to grasp the Truth that His love for you is not based on how well you perform in Christ but on the simply fact that He is love. When He looks at You He does not see the mistakes you do (still it is no excuse to sin and we have to ask for His forgiveness when we fall), He sees the finished work of the cross were Jesus bore all of our sins once for all and gained complete victory over them. When Jesus intercedes on our behalf He does not show the Father our sins, He shows our Father His Holiness that broke the power of sin over us. We are no surprise for Him, He loves us more that we can ever fathom. Our job is to receive His love and be full of it and be rooted in it. Once we do that our self issues will go away one after the other. Don’t doubt His love. God is not human and He does not love as we do, with conditions and limitations most of the time. As soon as possible, if you have not done it yet, ask Him for a revelation of His love for you. Only when it is understood in us that we will be able by the grace of God to love others as He loves us. And to love others is Jesus’s only command and the most important, it must be our goal as true followers of Christ Jesus. 💜
