Psalm 37:3-7 amp
Trust (lean on, rely on, and be confident) in the Lord and do good; so shall you dwell in the land and feed surely on His faithfulness, and truly you shall be fed. Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He will give you the desires and secret petitions of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord [roll and repose each care of your load on Him]; trust (lean on, rely on, and be confident) also in Him and He will bring it to pass. And He will make your uprightness and right standing with God go forth as the light, and your justice and right as [the shining sun of] the noonday. Be still and rest in the Lord; wait for Him and patiently lean yourself upon Him; fret not yourself because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who brings wicked devices to pass.
It might be surprising to some of you, but we are simply as close to God as we want to be. All that He wants is that we put Him first in our lives and every day. He wants firstly that we delight in Him. To delight in Him is to spend time with Him. There is absolutely no definite way to spend that time, as long as it is with Him. Of course the only variation that does not change every day is we have to spend time in the Word to renew our minds and become more Christ-like day after day and gain strength. The rest is up to us. We can spend our time thanking Him, praising Him, writing to Him, read a devotional book, etc.Wathevever suits us that day. We have to realize that spending time with our God, seeking His face, is the most important thing. We cannot start our day by praying that He will give us this or that in every prayer. God says to you Delight yourself in Me and I will give you the desires of your heart. Does it seem like asking Him for things necessary? Not really! It was a process, but now I almost never bother to ask Him for anything else than for Him to change me, increase my faith,to help me be a blessing to others…But it absolutely does not mean that I never ask for earthy things. What I learned is that what He offers in His Word is far more useful and meaningful than earthy things. He will provide the rest. This way of thinking brings great peace of mind. How many times did God tell me “fret not, it only causes harm”. We cannot want what others have or be sad because we don’t have what we want. What tells us that what we want is the best thing for us? Trust me, nobody knows us better than God, not even ourselves! So while we delight in Him and focus on seeking His face (get to know Him better) we remain at rest and we let God be God in our lives. The Lord will fight our battles while we are in peace. Simply 2 steps: make Him first, He will provide. By delighting ourselves in Him we start creating a deeper and closer relationship with Him. The more our will is aligned to God’s will and the more we put Him first, the more we mature in Him. All of this is a matter of choice. God longs to bless us and have this kind of relationship with us but He would never force us to do something we don’t want to do. Remember He gave us the ability to choose. But let me tell you from my experience that to choose the kind of closeness that He wants with us is to embark on a blissful, peaceful, joyfull and awesome journey with God! ❤
