The difficult task of loving

1 Corinthians 13:7 amp.

Love bears up under anything and everything that comes, is ever ready to believe the best of every person, its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances, and it endures everything [without weakening].

Being born again in Christ comes with the difficult task of loving. It is probably easy to love your parents, your brothers and sisters, but loving everyone? Probably not. Without faith, it is impossible to please God, but without love too. Without love we have nothing. Maybe we have been taught from a young age to protect ourselves from people so it will not hurt as much when they abandon us. We have most probably been taught not to trust anybody who is not in the family. We have been taught things like “Respect yourself”. If your husband or wife cheats “leave him or her”. And the famous “You can’t forgive that”. The love of this world comes with conditions. Being so agile at protecting, self respecting oneself, the thought of loving as God wants us to love can be terrifying. It was so terrifying for me, it took me many years to let go and let God be God in this area of my life. Trust is not easy for everyone, but the good news is we cannot put our trust in other human beings. Jesus loved His disciples but He did not put His trust in them, the human heart being what it is. Others are not perfect, as we are not perfect, but God loves these people as much as He loves us.  Loving, believing the best and loving without weakening I think is a daily thing, like everything else in our walk with our Lord Jesus. We have to decide to walk in God’s love and sow kindness and love in our relationships with all the people of our lives. We have to strive to live in peace with everyone. Loving people is not being a doormat. For example, you can break a friendship with someone that does not treat you right without hating them. Ever being ready to believe the best is not giving people bad intentions all the time. Yes, we can get hurt, but we have God to pick us up and heal us. The main thing is not to freak out because we cannot love perfectly like Jesus. Remember, everyday we change a little bit more into the likeness of Jesus. Being kind is loving. Praying for or with someone, giving to a homeless person, saying a kind word to someone, telling them often that we love them, encouraging someone.. those are all examples of ways of loving. Every morning, let us pray to walk in love, after all, God is in us and He is love. He will gladly help us! 💜
